A small industry delegation recently returned from AVALON 2023, a pivotal platform for NT defence support businesses to engage with and promote to Australian and Allied Defence Forces, and industry leaders across the sector. The exposition was a timely opportunity to continue engagement and promote industry capability with the relevant acquisition and sustainment teams supporting the F-35A Joint Strike Fighter and MQ-4C Triton Uncrewed Aerial System. These platforms bring next generation defence capability demands to our region which is seeing businesses invest to diversify their offering to support Defence.

The NT delegation comprised of Asia Pacific Aircraft Storage, Augility, Crowley, Life h2o, Tufwrap, Shorelands Group and Charles Darwin University. Local Office of Defence Industry Support (ODIS) representative Peter Meyer also supported the delegation. 
The official program for the 2023 NT Defence Week is now live. A suite of events have been created to compliment the annual Northern Australia Defence Summit and include various events to build a platform for stronger engagement between Defence, prime contractors and local businesses.

  • United States Force Posture Initiative

    On Thursday 20 April 2023, representatives from the Australian and United States Governments will host an Industry Day event in Darwin to provide information about the Australian and US Defence procurement processes.

    Under the United States Force Posture Initiatives (USFPI), both Australia and the United States are funding and delivering several infrastructure projects to support the Force Posture Initiatives.

    The US Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) is responsible for the delivery and management of the US funded projects. The Australian Department of Defence’s Capital Facilities and Infrastructure (CFI) Branch delivers major capital facilities infrastructure projects on behalf of Defence.

    This Industry Day is being held to provide information to businesses interested in working with NAVFAC or CFI to deliver future US or Australian military construction projects in Australia in support of the Force Posture Initiatives.

    This event is open to industry on a space available basis and will be of interest to businesses who have the capability to provide construction services to the Australian Department of Defence and the US Department of Defense to deliver infrastructure to support the Force Posture Initiatives.

    Topics covered on Industry Day will include:

    • Doing Business with Defense’ - United States Military Construction Acquisition criteria and processes
    • Doing Business with Defence – The Australian Defence Suite of Major Capital Facilities Contracts
    • Future US and Australian Defence Projects in Australia

    Location: Hilton Darwin, 32 Mitchell Street, Darwin.

    Time: The Industry Day will begin at 0900 and conclude at 1630.

  • Australian Defence Sales Catelogue Released

    The seventh edition of the Australian Defence Sales Catalogue has been released showcasing a record number of Australian businesses’ products, services, and technologies now available for export.

    The latest edition lists over 250 Australian world class, innovative, export-ready products and services¬, a record for Australia. It is a key tool to promote Australian defence industry to governments around the world.

    Along with a list of Australian businesses, the Catalogue includes surplus Australian Defence Force equipment and platforms shortly coming out of service, available for sale to other national governments.

    The mobile application version provides an intuitive interface and opportunities for interested parties to engage directly with listed companies.

    Successful Territory businesses include, Aspire Wellness, Custom Works, Life H20 Australia, Optic Security Group (Security & Technology Services NT Pty Ltd), Sea Swift, Shorelands Group Pty Ltd, Tristar Industries and Universal Site Monitoring.

  • The Defence Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Program

    The Defence Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Program is a major transformational program that will standardise, simplify and align processes across all Defence Groups and Services with an integrated system and consistent way of working.

    The Defence ERP program will modernise, integrate and transform Defence’s approach to managing its finances, human resources, logistics, engineering, maintenance and estate operations. Greater alignment and standardisation across Defence, will make it simpler for our Defence Industry partners to engage with us and support capability across different areas.

    The introduction of the S/4HANA ERP system, will result in a number of positive changes for our Defence Industry partners. ERP will remove a number of aging and disparate systems and processes used across Defence and within many of our Industry partners.

    Some changes for our Defence Industry, include:

    • common processes across Enterprise Asset Management and Asset Engineering for Defence assets and equipment
    • scalable, standardised and integrated supply chain processes, resulting in changes to warehouse set-ups and data structures
    • introduction of new data requirements and master data standards
    • introduction of the SAP Business Network for Procurement (known as Ariba), allowing for greater two-way transparency for purchase orders and invoicing. The SAP Business Network for Procurement is a SAP software solution which offers a broad range of online capabilities to manage business transactions between suppliers and buyers

    participation in learning and training to prepare for go-live.

  • Lockheed Martin Office of Australian Industrial Participation

    Lockheed Martin is an Australian defence prime contractor who is involved in the integration and sustainment of advanced systems, products and services across space, land, air, sea and cyber domains. Closer to home, the F-35A Joint Strike Fighter fleet are home based at RAAF Base Tindal, draws on the local market for supplies and Ground Support Equipment support, amongst other projects.

    Lockheed Martin’s Office of Australian Industrial Participation is developing a Quad Chart register for Australian SME’s, and welcome NT businesses to submit theirs to oaip.lm@lmco.com.

  • 2023 NT/Kimberly Employer Support Awards Now Open

    Nominations are now open for ADF Reservists to nominate their employer for the 2023 NT/K Employer Support Awards, which are run by ADF Reserve and Employer Support.

    The Employer Support Awards are designed to formally recognise civilian employers committed to supporting reservists in their workplace. They acknowledge employers that have gone above and beyond for their reservist employees. These awards provide an opportunity for reservists to give their employers public recognition for their support.

    The awards are held annually and category winners have the opportunity to then be recognised at the national level.

    Nominations are made via the online form, and close 31 May 2023.

  • 2023 AIDN National Young Acheiver Program

    AIDN is excited to announce the wait for the national roll-out of the Young Professional Program (YPP) is over.

    Nominations for the 2023 AIDN National Young Professional Program are now open for all AIDN Chapters around the country.

    Join like-minded individuals from a variety of backgrounds and roles with the similar interest of working in, and supporting, Australia's Defence Industry.

    Aim of the program

    The Young Professionals Program (YPP) aims to aid member organisations by supporting professionals adjusting to the defence environment and accelerating their careers. This will allow member organisations (especially SMEs) in broadening their defence industry knowledge and networks, aid staff engagement and recognition.

    Nomination criteria

    Participation is open to young professionals that meet the following criteria:

    • are employees of current financial AIDN members
    • are nominated by AIDN member organisations
    • are aged under 30 years, as of 1 January 2023
    • a minimum of 2 years of experience in their field of practice
    • identified as having the potential to make significant contribution to the employer and the Defence Industry APPLY NOW!

    All entries must include:

    • completed nomination form

  • Workforce solutions fund

    Territory businesses and industry experiencing critical workforce shortages can now access support under the Flexible Workforce Solutions Fund with Grants of up to $200,000 available to consortiums on a 25:75 co-contribution basis.

    This is a great opportunity for business, organisations and industry bodies to collaborate on projects and form a consortium or partnership to attract and retain the skilled workforce they need.

    Types of eligible activities include:

    • working with industry to create a solution to attract and retain workers
    • strategies that support seasonal worker mobility across industries
    • leveraging new technology to connect employers with workers
    • delivery of direct, in-country worker recruitment services to support the local workforce
    • innovative workforce planning solutions with immediate or medium-term outcomes.

    ATM: Defence Airfield Projects Industry Briefing 

    The industry briefing will provide information to project managers, designers and contractors on upcoming Defence airfield maintenance and capital projects.

    The Industry Briefing will be conducted both In-Person and Online on 15 June 2023, from 9:00am to 11:30am AEST.

    Army Innovation Day

    Army Innovation Day is an event showcasing Australian Defence Industry academia's ability to use innovative concepts to address capability gaps and grow the project pipeline.

    The Department of Defence (Defence) via the Australian Army and the Defence Innovation Hub (DIH) are seeking innovation submissions that will assist Defence in exploring Counter Robotic and Autonomous Systems (C-RAS) capabilities for the Land Force.

    Army Innovation Day is open to both industry and academia in Australia and New Zealand.

    Submissions are open from the 07 March 2023.
