DefenceNT recently led the largest NT maritime industry delegation to Indo Pacific 2022, which was a success for all stakeholders involved. DefenceNT, with the support of the NT Defence and National Security Advocate Dr Alan Dupont AO and Maritime Advisor RADM (ret’d) Dr Allan Du Toit AM from the NT National Security Advisory Group, were able to forge ahead with high level engagement highlighting the strategic importance of the NT.
Territory born businesses, like Universal Site Monitoring and Life h2o were able to present their latest innovations to key Defence decision makers in an effort to ensure a modernised and safer military environment. BRIG Ian Langford, Director-General Future Land Warfare, expressed keen interest in the Territory’s maritime capability and capacity to meet the maintenance and sustainment requirements for the next generation of Army watercraft fleet in Northern Australia.
The presence of Office of Defence Industry Support, Chamber of Commerce NT, Australian Industry and Defence Network, Land Development Corporation and Darwin Innovation Hub ensured greater support for Territory businesses at Indo Pacific 2022. The next Indo Pacific maritime exposition will be held on 7-9 November 2023, before returning to its usual biennial program.
This week we will be bringing the DefenceNT Roadshow series to Alice Springs, enabling businesses to hear directly from Amentum, BAE Systems and BGIS on upcoming project opportunities and how to become better engaged in future programs. Businesses working in Defence or interested in Defence opportunities are encouraged to attend this informative defence industry briefing, followed by a cyber-security briefing and networking session. The Northern Territory’s Virtual Twin project has been developed through a strategic partnership between the NT Government, Secora, Dassault Systemes and AMC Search and was successfully launched at Indo Pacific 2022.
The Virtual Twin is a digital planning tool to support decision making for strategic infrastructure development, aimed at enabling the Australian Defence Force (ADF), our Allies and industry to rapidly assess options and de-risk project development in the Territory.
Harnessing the power of data, the Virtual Twin can be used to explore scenarios through simulation to optimise planning, logistics, training and asset management programs. Developed to a proof of concept level in late 2021, the Virtual Twin has since been demonstrated to senior leadership from the ADF, United States Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM) and a range of industry stakeholders.
Initially focused on Darwin Harbour, the Virtual Twin has now been expanded to multiple locations of strategic significance including the Gove Peninsula.

Speaking at the INDO PACIFIC International Maritime Exposition in Sydney last week, Rear Admiral Wendy Malcolm launched Horizon Three of Plan Galileo, the Future Maritime Sustainment Model that will ensure the ongoing sustainment of our growing surface fleet.
In doing so, RADM Malcolm called on industry and interested stakeholders to take part in an online “Pulse Check” of Plan Galileo and provide their feedback on the implementation of Plan Galileo so far, and how this next horizon should be delivered.
Feedback from the Pulse Check will allow Maritime Systems Division to ensure industry’s opinions and views are heard and incorporated into the Future Maritime Sustainment Model.
We encourage you to take part in this brief survey and play your part in Plan Galileo Horizon Three: Sustainment 2025. Click here to take the Pulse Check survey.
